Helpful Hints: What to expect
..During your sleep study, several electrodes are used to monitor:
-Blood oxygen level with a fingertip pulse oximeter
-Muscle movements in each leg
-Brain activity (EEG)
-Heart (EKG)
-Respiratory belts and airflow monitoring
-Snoring
Patient rooms are very cozy and completely private. You may watch television or read when your hook-up is complete. Each patient has access to gender specific half-bathroom, which are handicap-accessible.
Your technician will assist you in completing you paperwork, explain the procedure to you, and monitor you for the entire procedure.
The day of your appointment:
-No naps
-No alcoholic beverages
-No caffeine after 12 noon.
-Take all medications as you would normally
Please wash and dry your hair thoroughly before your appointment. Use of any hair styling products, make-up, body or facial lotions will prevent the electrodes from sticking to your scalp and skin successfully.
What to bring:
-Comfortable loose fitting sleepwear (patient’s are not permitted to wear only undergarments)
-Comfort items from home (example: pillow or a novel to read)
-Toiletries (example: toothbrush and toothpaste)
-You will have to shower and dress at your home the following morning
-Completed Sleep Questionnaires
-Please print a clear list of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter medications, names, dosages and how often you take them per day.
Bring any medications that you may need to take at bedtime. If you routinely use a nasal spray or sinus medication it will be helpful for your study to bring these medications.
